Current use: Active aid to navigation. Current owner: U.S. Coast Guard. Markings/Pattern: White with black trim. Structure:
Structure stands 40 feet above Lake Erie. Lighthouse was enlarged and moved to the current location in 1916. Construction
materials consist of steel with iron plate. House rests on a concrete crib (1916). U.S. Coast Guard District 9 Previous
tower constructed in 1836, crib located on East Pier. Dwelling built in 1872; tower removed from East Pier and replaced
by new tower on West Pier in 1876. Present tower moved 471 feet in 1882; range lights established in 1893. Lens: Originally
housed a Fourth Order Fresnel lens. Lens now on display at museum. First lit: 1905 Lighthouse automated in 1973. Present
optic installed in 1995. Focal plane of 51'. Foghorn: Diaphone. Other Buildings: Keepers Quarters constructed
in 1896, two stories high and constructed out of wood. Museum is in keepers quarters and open to the public. Also
a radio beacon. 1928: During a winter Storm in 1928 two keepers were imprisoned by a fierce ice storm that encapsulated
the lighthouse. They had to thaw the door and tunnel through ice 5’ thick in places.

Established: 1831, 1911 Location: Cleveland Breakwater, Ohio, Lake Erie. Information: Current Use: Active aid to
navigation. Structure: Current structure was first lit in 1911. Tower height is at 67'. U.S. Coast Guard District
9. Housed a keeper and two assistants during the 1800's. Tower is attached to a fog signal building which was constructed
in 1910. Construction materials of structure consist of cast iron, brick and wood. Lens: Automated in 1965. Height
of Focal Plane: 63. Originally housed a Fourth Order Fresnel lens which was removed in 1995 & given to the Great Lakes
Science Center.
